  • Apple Press

    Tue 18 Oct 2022

Over the last two days thanks to the support of Mrs Delahay our children have really enjoyed the experience of making their own apple juice from our very own Fairfield apples. We have all loved tasting the juice and would like to invite you to join us to try some yourself at the end of the day on the playground.

If you are also able to make a small contribution it may provide us with the opportunity of hiring the press once again in the future!

    Many thanks from

    The Fairfield Team

  • Eco - Schools

    Fri 14 Oct 2022

We want to share some exciting news, this year our school has made the decision to work towards Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation, you can find out more on the Eco-Schools website here: https://www.eco-schools.org.uk/

With the world beginning to experience the effects of climate change; different species of plant and animals becoming extinct every day; and micro-plastics being found in the most remote locations on Earth - now, is the time to educate future generations about the impact of our actions on the planet we call home.

The Eco-Schools programme does this through providing a simple seven-step framework that has been designed to raise awareness of environmental issues whilst empowering young people to make a positive difference by taking a lead on environmental actions and projects in their school and local community.

Within Eco-Schools’ simple framework young people are encouraged to support us in deciding on the environmental issues they would like to tackle, represented by ten Eco-Schools topics. Once the topics have been chosen, they help us to decide what actions they would like to take and how they are going to involve their school and community. The seven-step process takes around one academic year to complete and culminates in an Eco-Schools’ assessor looking over a school’s application and evidence, with a view to recognising and celebrating their achievements.

The Eco-Schools programme began in 1994, is delivered in more than 70 countries around the world and in England is operated by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. The programme not only positively impacts our planet (for example schools participating in the programme planted 37,865 trees during the last academic year), it also benefits young people, building teamwork and leadership skills whilst increasing confidence and reducing eco-anxiety.

A key part of the Eco-Schools process is involving our entire school and wider community so we wanted to get in touch to let you know about our involvement. We also wanted to let you know what to expect over the coming months: regular updates in our school newsletter; invitations to participate in environmental events and projects; and increasingly conscientious young people.

If you would like to support our work or know more about the Eco-Schools programme please contact Mrs Delahay who is our proud leader of this project.

  • Fairfield is taking part in Walktober

    Mon 03 Oct 2022

#Walktober is a challenge held each October to celebrate International Walk to School Month, when school communities are asked to walk/wheel as much as possible to and from school or work.

By travelling actively throughout October we will be stepping up for our planet, our wellbeing and our community. Walking/wheeling, scooting and cycling reduces car use which will improve air quality, benefit health and wellbeing and have a positive impact on the local community by reducing congestion. This event starts on Monday 3rd October and runs throughout the whole of October, ending on Monday 31st October.

Your Steps Count! - pupil competition

Throughout October we are asking pupils to make a pledge and record their active travel using the Walktober Challenge Card to show how they are Stepping Up for Walktober. (Hard copies of these were sent home with children last week)

There are lots of actions they could include - walking/wheeling to school, scooting to the park, cycling to a local shop, using Park and Stride, taking a bus instead of the car on a day trip - these choices make a big difference!

At the end of Walktober parents/carers can submit their child's completed challenge card to us here at Fairfield before Friday 4th November. Your entries will then be entered into a draw run by Myjourney Hampshire to win prizes including vouchers, days out, binoculars or microscopes.

You can also enter directly via the following link before Friday 11th November:

    myjourneyhampshire.com/walktober

If you have any queries please let us know!

    Good luck and enjoy Walktober!
