Welcome to Year R - entering school!

Dear Parents,

We are delighted that you have chosen Fairfield Infant School for your child and we look forward to working with you.  Our aim is to give your child the best start on their exciting journey into education.

We have put together the following programme of events to help welcome you to our school. Due to the current situation, we have had to consider the activities carefully. Normally, we would hold the majority of these events before the summer holidays but with the current restrictions within school, this is not possible. We hope that by rearranging them for September we are still able to provide a strong transition into school for your child. It just means some of the activities are a little close together! Please be aware that these are all subject to change or cancellation, depending on the government advice for wider school openings and social distancing in September.

Parents Information Evening.
This would normally take place at school, but we are going to record the meeting for you to watch at a convenient time.

The video will include details of an email address you can use to pose any questions you have after watching the meeting.

Accessible from 26th June via the school website.

A link will be sent to you via parent mail.

Story Time

Teachers will be recording their story time session for their class virtually this year and it will be placed on the website with a link sent to you via parent mail. This video will also be a chance for the teachers to introduce a little bit about themselves for the children.

Accessible from 6th July via the school website.
A link will be sent to you via parent mail.

Home Visits

This year, due to government restrictions, home visits will take place virtually.

Home visits are a chance for you to meet your child’s class teacher and share information that will help us ensure your child has a successful first year at Fairfield. It is also a chance for us to meet you and your child in a familiar environment for them.

Week of 7th September.

Children do not have to move to full time until it is right for them. They can remain part time (mornings only or mornings plus lunch) for a longer period until they feel ready for the next step.  This can be discussed with your child’s teacher at either their home visit or during the first week of starting school.

All children (unless otherwise agreed) will be in school full time by Friday 25th September.

From then on our normal school hours will be:

Register at 8.50am (doors open from 8.35am) to 3.05pm

Dropping Off and Collecting Your Child:

Unfortunately, there is no parking for parents on our school site.  There is permitted street parking for 30 minutes around the school as well as provision provided by Havant Borough Council at the St Georges Street car park and the Pallant Centre up to 9.00am and between 3.00 and 3.15pm free.  Please do not park in School Lane as this is a private road (you may receive a fine) or in the parking spaces for the flats on the corner of Waterloo Road or Somerstown Flats. We would encourage families to walk to school whenever possible.

We look forward to meeting you and your child and welcoming you to our school.  Any questions about the above timetables please contact the school office on 02392 483029 or email

Yours sincerely,
